Connecting Services

Link your calendar, fitness trackers, weather services, and more to give your Aura rich context about your life.

Last updated: December 2024

Overview

Connecting external services gives your Aura the context it needs to be truly helpful. Each connected service becomes a "sense" that your Aura can use to understand your world - your schedule, health metrics, location, and more.

This guide walks you through connecting each supported service step by step.

Before You Start

  • Have your credentials ready: You'll need to sign in to each service you want to connect
  • Allow pop-ups: The authorization flow opens in a new window. Make sure your browser allows pop-ups from Aura
  • Check account access: For work accounts (like Google Workspace), your administrator may need to allow Aura
Note
All connections use OAuth, which means Aura never sees or stores your passwords. You're signing in directly with each service, and they give Aura a secure token to access your data.

Google Calendar

Connect Google Calendar to let your Aura see your schedule, upcoming meetings, and availability.

  1. Go to Library → Senses
  2. Find Google Calendar and click Connect
  3. A Google sign-in window will open. Select or enter your Google account
  4. Review the permissions Aura is requesting:
    • View your calendars
    • View events on your calendars
  5. Click Allow to grant access
  6. You'll be redirected back to Aura with the connection complete
Tip
If you have multiple Google accounts, make sure you select the one with the calendar you want Aura to access.

What Aura can access:

  • Event titles, times, and durations
  • Event descriptions and locations
  • Attendee lists (names and emails)
  • Your busy/free status

What Aura cannot do: Create, edit, or delete calendar events.

Microsoft Outlook

Connect Microsoft Outlook to access your Microsoft 365 calendar.

  1. Go to Library → Senses
  2. Find Microsoft Outlook and click Connect
  3. A Microsoft sign-in window will open. Enter your Microsoft account credentials
  4. Review and accept the permissions
  5. Click Accept to complete the connection
Warning
For work or school Microsoft accounts, your organization's IT administrator may need to approve Aura before you can connect. Contact your IT department if you see an "Admin approval required" message.

Fitbit

Connect your Fitbit device to give Aura access to your activity, sleep, and health metrics.

  1. Go to Library → Senses
  2. Find Fitbit and click Connect
  3. You'll be redirected to Fitbit's authorization page

  5. Review the data permissions Aura is requesting
  6. Click Allow to complete the connection

  • Heart Rate: Resting heart rate, heart rate zones during activities
  • Exercise: Logged workouts and exercises
  • Body: Weight and BMI (if tracked)
Tip
Make sure your Fitbit syncs regularly with the Fitbit app on your phone. Aura pulls data from Fitbit's cloud, so your device needs to sync first.

Garmin

Connect your Garmin device to access comprehensive fitness and health data.

  1. Go to Library → Senses
  2. Find Garmin and click Connect
  3. You'll be redirected to Garmin Connect
  4. Sign in with your Garmin account

Note
Garmin provides some of the most comprehensive health data available. If you have a Garmin watch with Body Battery, Aura can use this to understand your energy levels throughout the day.

Apple Health

Connect Apple Health to access health and fitness data from your iPhone and Apple Watch.

Note
Apple Health integration is available through the Aura mobile app on iOS. Due to Apple's privacy requirements, Health data can only be accessed on-device.
  1. Open the Aura app on your iPhone
  2. Go to Settings → Senses
  3. Tap Apple Health
  4. You'll be prompted by iOS to grant Health access
  5. Select the data types you want to share with Aura
  6. Tap Allow

Data available from Apple Health:

  • Activity: Steps, distance, flights climbed, exercise minutes
  • Workouts: All recorded workouts from Apple Watch and third-party apps
  • Sleep: Sleep analysis and schedule
  • Heart: Heart rate, resting heart rate, HRV
  • Mindfulness: Meditation and breathing sessions
Warning
Apple Health data stays on your device for privacy. If you use Aura on multiple devices, Health data will only be available from the iPhone where you granted permission.

Strava

Connect Strava to let Aura see your athletic activities and training patterns.

  1. Go to Library → Senses
  2. Find Strava and click Connect
  3. You'll be redirected to Strava's authorization page

Tip
Strava is ideal for runners and cyclists. Aura can use your training patterns to suggest rest days, celebrate new PRs, or encourage you when you haven't been active.

Oura Ring

Connect your Oura Ring to give your Aura insight into your sleep, readiness, and activity.

  1. Go to Library → Senses
  2. Find Oura Ring and click Connect
  3. You'll be redirected to Oura's authorization page
  4. Sign in with your Oura account (the same one linked to your ring)

  • Activity Score: Daily movement and exercise (0-100)
  • Sleep Details: REM, deep sleep, efficiency, total duration
  • Body Temperature: Deviation from your baseline
  • Heart Rate Variability: HRV metrics
Note
Oura data typically updates each morning after your ring syncs overnight data. Sleep scores won't be available until after you wake up and sync.

WHOOP

Connect Spotify to let your Aura understand your music listening habits.

  1. Go to Library → Senses
  2. Find Spotify and click Connect
  3. Sign in with your Spotify account
  4. Authorize Aura to view your listening activity

Data available from Spotify:

  • Currently playing track and artist
  • Recently played songs
  • Current playlist or album
  • Music energy and mood indicators

Use cases: Suggest focus playlists during work hours, notice when you're listening to workout music, recommend calming music in the evening.

Location Sharing

Location is different from other senses - it comes directly from your device rather than an external service.

  1. Go to Library → Senses
  2. Find Location and click Enable
  3. Your browser will ask for permission to share your location
  4. Click Allow to grant access
Note
For the best experience, allow location access "Always" or "While using the app." This enables location-based rules like "When I arrive at work."

After enabling location, you can save important places:

  1. Go to Library → Locations
  2. Click Add Location
  3. Search for an address or drop a pin on the map
  4. Give the location a name (e.g., "Home", "Work", "Gym")
  5. Set a radius for geofence triggering

These saved locations can be used as triggers in rules: "When I arrive at Work" or "When I leave Home."

Managing Connections

All your connected services are managed in Library → Senses.

Disconnecting Services

To remove a connection:

  1. Go to Library → Senses
  2. Find the service you want to disconnect
  3. Click the Disconnect button
  4. Confirm the disconnection
Warning
Disconnecting a service immediately revokes Aura's access. Any rules that depend on that sense will stop working until you reconnect.

Refreshing Connections

If data seems stale or a connection has expired:

  1. Go to Library → Senses
  2. Find the service with issues
  3. Click Reconnect or Refresh
  4. You may need to sign in again to renew the authorization

Troubleshooting Connections

Common issues and solutions:

"Connection expired" or "Needs reauthorization"

  • OAuth tokens expire periodically for security
  • Click the service and sign in again to refresh the connection

"Pop-up blocked" when connecting

  • Allow pop-ups from Aura in your browser settings
  • Try using a different browser if the issue persists

"Admin approval required" (Microsoft accounts)

  • Your organization's IT admin must approve Aura
  • Contact your IT department to request approval
  • Alternatively, connect a personal Microsoft account

Wearable data not updating

  • Oura and WHOOP sync data with delays - typically overnight
  • Make sure your wearable has synced with its companion app
  • Try manually syncing in the wearable's app, then refresh in Aura

Location not working

  • Check that location permissions are enabled for your browser/app
  • On mobile, ensure Aura has "Always" or "While using" location access
  • Try disabling and re-enabling location in Aura settings
